Vegan Grilled Cheese Sandwich

I was introduced to grilled cheese sandwiches by my friend Sani, who made me a grilled cheese sandwich for breakfast. Back in the day, when my diet wasn't plant based, I used to love cheese, especially melted cheese on toast and sandwiches. So, a few days ago I was watching YouTube videos from one of my favorite vegan bloggers, Rachel Ama and she was making vegan grilled cheese sandwich, so I got a really big craving for one!

To be honest, I love eating fruits and veggies and I absolutely love experimenting in the kitchen with ingredients and spices and my goal is to make spicy and delicious meals that make a person see that you can make an incredibly delicious meal that's rich in flavor without using animal product and instead, use only natural ingredients!

But, on the other hand, it's good that there are meat and dairy substitutes out there on the market, because I know that it may be challenging for some people to go vegan and these substitutes will definitely help them! Of course, not all of these products are the healthiest and eating fruits and veggies is much more beneficial for you, but the goal here is to make more people see that you can still be satisfied and enjoy a rich meal without having to contribute to animal cruelty!

So, with that being said, let's get straight into the recipe! Trust me, you'll definitely want to try this Vegan Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

ingredients:

100 g grated vegan cheese/ vegan cheese slices*

2 relatively thin slices of stale bread (stale means hard and dry/ bread that has been in the kitchen for a couple of days)

a little bit of vegetable oil (for cooking)

pinch of salt and pepper

1 small tomato, thinly sliced**

1 fresh basil leaf**

*I used VioLife Vegan Cheese. That the only good quality vegan cheese available in my country, but feel free to use any other vegan cheese you enjoy

**these ingredients are for the extra flavor- they work very well with this recipe, but if you're not a fan of tomatoes/basil/ both, feel free to leave them out.

directions:

-firstly, prepare your vegan cheese, cut your tomatoes in thin slices and thinly chop the basil leaf. Prepare the two pieces of bread and lastly, prepare a cooking pan, leave it on a medium heat on the stove, add some vegetable oil and leave it to heat up

-on a plate, add the first slice of bread, on top of that add half of the cheese you prepared, then place your sliced tomatoes and fresh basil and finally, add another layer of the leftover cheese. Finish off this step by placing the second slice of fresh

-by now, the pan should be heated up. Add the sandwich to the pan and let it cook for a couple minutes, flipping it half way through on both sides*

*I used a lid from a saucepan to push down the sandwich so that it cooks faster and the cheese melts quicker. I'll leave a link to the video I watched down below, so you can visually see how to make this sandwich.

You can enjoy this sandwich as is, but I highly recommend having some green/ black olives on the side with it, if you're an olive fan of course! Enjoy this sandwich for breakfast, lunch or dinner, share it with your friends and family and enjoy every delicious bite out of it!
